Ibo Island Lodge is situated on the Indian Ocean paradise of Ibo Island just north of the small town of Pemba in the Quirimbas Archipelago Northern Mozambique Ibo Island is probably the most visited in the Quirimbas Archipelago due to its fascinating history and beautiful old buildings

Accommodation

Ibo Island is a potential World Heritage Site and therefore the rooms have been designed to incorporate the original architecture and style of the old buildings The lodge has spectacular views over the waterfront and accommodates guests in beautifully simple yet elegant rooms with indigenous solid teak and mahogany furniture handcrafted by local people The wide verandas are furnished with hand carved furniture and soft cushions

Each of the rooms are individually designed en-suite large air conditioned and boast antiques and handcrafted furniture with magnificent wooden doors and shutters that evoke the original design

All rooms are air-conditioned and also have ceiling fans The en suite bathrooms feature twin basins and large marble showers while some also have baths and outside showers

Other facilities include mosquito nets room safe hair dryer tea coffee making facilities and bathrobes

Dining

Meals feature freshly grown vegetables herbs and fruits and combine traditional specialities with seafood giant tiger prawns game fish and Ibo s speciality crab with fragrant soft fluffy coconut rice Romantic dinners are served on the tranquil verandas or on the rooftop terrace all with awesome views over the island

The restaurant and bar is magnificently situated on the root terrace of the Bela Vista mansion facing west for unforgettable sunsets and affording spectacular views over the bay With prior written notice the lodge will do it s very best to cater for simple dietary requirements but please understand that Ibo Island is a very remote destination and complicated requests are not possible

Activities Facilities

The lodge has two swimming pools set in tropical gardens an air-conditioned lounge and private dinning room as well as a roof terrace restaurant with an open-air lounge area for after dinner drinks under the stars

The three mansions of Ibo Island Lodge are called Villa Paradiso Villa Niassa and Villa Bela Vista Accommodation is split between Paradiso and Niassa only - Bela Vista is the public area of the lodge and houses the Lodge s restaurant shop and the main pool in the main garden

Probably the most compelling attraction in the Quirimbas Ibo s 200-year-old ghost town and 16th Century forts make for a fascinating journey to an era long forgotten
