Located on the west coast of Zanzibar just 12 km north of Stone Town you will find one of the most beautiful places of the island - the Hakuna Matata Beach Lodge and Spa Old big mango trees - a private bay with white sandy beach - the old Chuini Palace ruins and a perfect service makes us different from the other resorts on the island

Hakuna Matata Beach Lodge is built on the place of the Chunini Palace Sultan Seyyid Barghash bin Said Zanzibar Sultan 1870-1888 has built this palace in the late 70th of the 19th century In a very good condition you can find nowadays the aquaduct the connected cisternes the bath and the minarett Hakuna Matata has been integrated in these ruins

Accomodation

We offer comfortable bungalows all with a spectacular view to the Indian Ocean Our bungalows are located on an area of 1 5 ha and offer a lot of privacy

All bungalows have a big living room with a queen or kingsize bed and a spacious bathroom with toilet and shower ceiling fan hot and cold water mosquito net shower gel hair dryer towels and beach mats

The big terrace gives you a spectacular view to the Indian Ocean

The superior bungalow which is bigger than the others has a separate toilet and an additional bed and has even more space and comfort in the bathroom

Our bungalows are named after famous persons like David Livingstone or Bernhard Gzimek who visited these places in Tansania and Zanzibar during different centuries

Dining

In our restaurant and a lounge above the Indian Ocean we offer a First Class international and national cuisine Our speciality is seafood and any kinds of fresh fish from the ocean

As something very special once a week we smoke in our smoking oven Fish chicken and beef-filet comes fresh smoked to your table It s something really different - taste it

Also find an excellent choice of South African wines - they will enhance your excellent dinner We get them by plane directely from South Africa so not shaken and heated up like transport by ship

Honeymooners or people in love enjoy their private candlelight dinner on top of the Chuini Ruins platform

Zanzibarian Folk Groups perform frequently African Ngoma Music and acrobatics in the restaurant

We also offer Badminton Beach volleyball Billiard and table soccer on the cliff above the Indian Ocean Table tennis in the ruin In a part of the ruins we have integrated an open air theatre Every evening you may enjoy a movie or even a concert by Paul McCartney unfortunately not personally but on DVD

Swimming Pool

We are very proud about our pool In endless hours we restored the old Sultans bath and now the water is circulating in 3 Pools connected by cascades and makes you swimming like a Sultan The depth of the pools is between 90 cm and 2 50 m

Diving

Not far away you will find some of the most beautiful and exciting dive spots of Zanzibar Together with our parter diving station East African Diving and Watersports we will make your diving holiday an unforgettable experience After a short trip leading throug native villages you arrive at the boat The first dive spot is about a 30 minutes ride - now jump in the blue water and enjoy the colourful waterworld of the Indian Ocean Also we can arrange excursions to the famous Mnemba atoll located in the north-east coast of Zanzibar island

The neighbouring island of Pemba is worth while visiting as the dive spots are counted in the worlds top 10 You are not a cerficated diver We offer all PADI dive courses Not sure about your experience No problem we offer a short refresher course All dive packages give you enough time to explore the island - or just relax If you have your own equipment we provide facilities to store and dry it

Here you will find the rare species of the red Colobus Monkey you only can see it in Zanzibar A long time it seems the species will extinguish but due to the efforts of the Government and private initiatives it could be saved and the population is increasing again It s now a protected species Also you can hike through the rain forest and the mangrove swamps
