Seaplane Transfers The journey to Velavaru is an adventure in itself Where else do you travel to your resort by seaplane - in true James Bond style - and enjoy a magnificent bird s eye view of mysteriously shaped reefs on the way After the 40-minute flight across the South Mal Atoll and countless islands you land in the middle of the picture-perfect lagoon surrounding Velavaru where a boat takes you to paradise

Dhaalu Atoll The Maldives consists of a chain of 1190 small coral islands that stretch over an area of 90 000 square kilometres Only one percent of this enormous area consists of land the Indian Ocean takes up the rest The 1190 islands are naturally grouped into 26 atolls with no more than 200 islands inhabited and only 88 chosen for resort development

The secret of Velavaru lies in its fantastic location in the northeast of South Nilandhe or Dhaalu Atoll some 150 km from Mal International Airport It is one of only two resort islands in the entire atoll which means that the natural environment of the neighbouring islands is virtually untouched and that the dive sites are strikingly beautiful

Dining Pleasures Dining is always a pleasure at Velavaru The rustic restaurant and bar with their thatched roofs and sand floors provide an atmosphere that puts you immediately in a wonderful holiday mood

You can dine al fresco with a view of the ocean or inside the building next to the buffet selections For that special romantic occasion we can also arrange customized private dining experiences on the beach or a secret island

Hathaa Restaurant The island s main restaurant is located in a large enchanting round building with an alang alang roof Here you can sift through the soft sand with your toes and rest your eyes on the green vegetation and blue horizon beyond

All meals at the restaurant are planned in order to provide a wide variety of cuisines during your stay at Velavaru Daily breakfast lunch and dinner are served buffet style

The restaurant is open at the following times Breakfast 7 30 9 30am Lunch 12 30 2pm Dinner 8 9 30pm

Late breakfast will be served at the Bar until 11am with tea coffee and pastries for late risers No additional charge applies

Muraka Bar Muraka Bar is simply and elegantly designed to put you at ease on your holiday The open-air deck surrounding the bar provides a casual atmosphere and meeting place that s perfect for all-day snacks drinks and lively conversation

Ask the barman for your favourite cocktail or any concoction you may desire and chat into the night while gazing at the stars In addition to the usual bar drinks Muraka Bar is well stocked with fine wines and champagnes Discounted drinks are offered every evening from 6 30-7 30pm During Happy Hour and on selected nights local entertainment is on offer The bar is open from 9am until the last guest leaves

Watersports The Water Sports Centre is well equipped with surfboards sails and catamarans Beginners can learn windsurfing canoeing or skimming across the waves in a catamaran while the more experienced water sports enthusiasts can test their skills against the wind and ocean surf

Land Sports You will find plenty of activities on land as well Table tennis darts beach volleyball and badminton are available For those who prefer a more leisurely pace a selection of board games and books can be enjoyed at the library

Shopping The Gallery stocks a variety of gifts souvenirs jewellery pieces post cards stamps and suntan lotions If you haven t had time to go shopping for resort apparel at home you can find some casual t-shirts and sarongs here

Diving Start your underwater adventure with the OCEAN-PRO dive team that will take you to untouched dive sites as only two of the many uninhabited islands of this atoll have been opened to tourism Six days of unlimited diving without visiting a dive site twice is normal here You will also find a very spacious dive school with all the amenities a diver could ask for and don t have to carry your own equipment to the boat What s more the service includes small equipment repairs

The OCEAN-PRO dive team is a PADI dive centre under Swiss management and offers the whole range of PADI courses from beginner to assistant instructor level plus a wide range of specialty courses Enriched Air Nitrox fills are available here The big and protected lagoon with its clear and calm waters is ideal for conducting beginner courses while the classroom is equipped with air-conditioning a TV-video set and all the standard PADI education facilities

The Base leader Patrick Guillaumin-Galland and his team of three instructors and an assistant instructor speak and teach in English German French and Italian

Atoll to explore Dhaalu Atoll is virgin territory when it comes to tourism Many of its dive sites reefs and islands are virtually untouched and definitely worth an outing Velavaru arranges different types of excursions that invite you to discover the wealth of experiences that the atoll has to offer from island hopping and dolphin watching to snorkelling safaris and night fishing

Island Hopping Visit three very different islands on this full-day excursion a fishing village where you can experience the life of the Maldivian people an uninhabited island where you can enjoy some snorkelling and sunbathe on a pristine white beach while a barbecue lunch is being prepared for you and Vilu Reef the other resort island in the atoll A half-day afternoon trip taking you to the fishing village and resort island is also available

Night fishing Fishing in the middle of the ocean at night is a peaceful kind of activity a time to relax look up at the stars and enjoy the company of your partner after a day underwater or in the sun You will be back at the resort for dinner and can ask the chef to prepare your catch
